Information about Chinchilla - Color & Quality Usually Farm Raised Genuine Empress Chinchilla Lanigera is graded by size, color, purity and darkness. The bigger and darker the more the price.

It is so expensive to harvest chinchilla because they usually have about 2 to 6 offspring per year and breeders cannot usually breed color. So a breeder can breed 2 pairs of black velvet chinchillas but they will not necessarily produce black velvet kits because in chinchillas the fur color is not determined by genetics but rather by a difficult combination of diet and environmental conditions. Thus you can have only 5 or 6 out of basic population 100 chinchillas , that can be dark enough to be classified as Black Velvet and about 25-30 dark enough to fall into the Empress category which ranges in darkness from Empress X, Empress XX, Empress XXX Dark. The remaining chinchilla grades are used mainly for section furs etc. And not for high end coats like this one.

US size: about 8 to 14. Sweep at bottom: about 62 inches. Shoulder to shoulder: about 17.5 to 18.8 inches. Sleeves from neck to cuff: about 34 inches. Sleeves from shoulder to cuff: about 25-26 inches.

Across back from armpit to armpit: about 23.5-25 inches. Chest at fullest point with coat closed: about 47-50 inches. I think it will fit a size small up to a size 14 because of the generous cut.
